Maintaining social distance in Salmanson

Bryant will offer a staggered meal service, with reduced capacity at each seating to eliminate potential crowding. The dining hall entrance and exit will be monitored to oversee the flow of traffic and capacity, and we will install six-foot markers for the queue of students entering the dining hall.

The dining tables inside our main dining hall will be spaced in updated configurations to meet six-foot social distancing requirements.

Floor markers and point-of-use signage will be prominently displayed to remind students of CDC guidelines and encourage distancing.

We have reconfigured entry to Salmanson so that students will be able to maintain the six-foot social distancing recommendation. Traffic flow into and out of the dining hall will be one way, entering at the top level and exiting from the main floor. All students will be required to wear a mask while waiting to enter.

A tent with flooring will be placed adjacent to Salmanson Dining Hall. With the added seating, the combined capacity with social distancing should be similar to what the dining hall alone would typically hold. Some chairs will be removed so that students sitting at tables will remain six feet apart.

Salmanson will still be “all you can eat.” (Learn more about menu options in Salmo here.) For students’ safety, self-service will be replaced with dining staff distributing food to students. To ensure all students can enter and eat their meal in a timely manner, we will need students to enjoy their meal and leave the dining hall (no social congregating beyond eating your meal). We anticipate that students will complete their meal in 20 minutes and move on from the dining hall to avoid unnecessary contact with others.

The GET App

GET has been used at the University for years, but this year we have added enhanced features including GET My Card, which allows for touchless transactions using virtual IDs with bar codes displayed on your mobile device. Cell phone scanners will now replace a swipe of your ID at most locations, including Salmanson Dining Hall. GET Food has also been enhanced with four additional locations. This convenient way to order and pay will help speed up lines and food pickup to get you quickly on your way.

The brochure “How to Navigate Food at Bryant During COVID-19" highlights the use of the GET App.

Grab-and-Go options / contactless dining transactions

Bryant Dining has designated locations across campus for grab-and-go offerings. For lunch and dinner, students can pick up a prepackaged meal at:

  • The Scoop
  • Bulldog Bytes Café
  • Café a la Carte
  • Nick’s Place

Nick's Place also will offer 11 different meal exchanges to choose from.

Social distancing plans, contactless payment, and space reconfigurations will be in place for safe food pickup at these venues.

We are installing additional technology including touchless entryways, online ordering, cashless payments, and delivery options to limit contact between students and dining staff.

Yes, in compliance with State of Rhode Island regulations, face masks/coverings are to be worn in all Bryant University public areas including dining areas, meeting rooms and classrooms, hallways, and high traffic outdoor walkways where it is difficult to maintain safe distance. The exception is when the students are seated in the dining hall and enjoying their meal.

What measures is Bryant taking to assure heightened food safety procedures and cleaning protocols in the dining areas?

For maximum food safety, all self-service options such as the salad bar will be eliminated.

We will increase our frequent cleaning of tables and touchpoints. High-touch surfaces will be sanitized and disinfected m with professional-grade products multiple times each day.

If a student is ill and required to isolate or quarantine, how will they get their meals?

Safe meal delivery options will be provided for any students experiencing symptoms or diagnosed with COVID-19.

While on campus, Bryant dining employees will utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including wearing facemasks and gloves when in the dining facilities.

Dining service employees will regularly report on their health, including temperature checks. Dining staff will continue to wash hands thoroughly and frequently.

Please see this document for more information on campus dining safety related to COVID-19.

Food vendors on campus have been asked to submit their COVID-19 plan for approval to operate on campus. All vendor employees will complete the Health Checker App before entering campus. Campus Management has worked with all food vendors to approve the reconfiguration of their space for proper social distancing and enhanced safety procedures.
